site specific d a n s e

Emus

The project d a n s e, by its nature is receptive to different environments, alternate spaces or in the open air. Each site invites the artists to be influenced by it and to influence it in new ways, to create relationships that are unique to the host site. The dance is put into direct relationship with that which surrounds it, without music or technical elements in “found-environments”.

The question of receptivity is posed equally from this perspective : how might a particular space impregnate the way one watches the dance, how might it influence the listening?

In July 2005, the first site specific project of  d a n s e , entitled sur les traces du wombat , was realised at the invitation of the festival Parcours de danse at Chamarande (91).  For Rosalind Crisp, “this work is about exposing  d a n s e  to the natural environment of the park, allowing the elements of  d a n s e  and the particular environment to mutually effect each other. My interest lies in using the materials of  d a n s e  to make a response to the found environment and to explore the effect of one on the other, without succumbing to the seduction of the park and the production of beautiful images, but rather, to stay close to the work of  d a n s e  whilst allowing it to be impregnated by the park.”

Each site specific  d a n s e  represents a unique event.
